2013 Hey Day Report from Len Haug

Hey Day was very successful in spite of the uncertainty of early morning weather. While the number of attendees may have been lower than last year, there was a good turnout. The use of two rooms in the Crocker House and the adjacent classroom (instead of the large barn) worked out really well and it seemed that throughout the day we had a steady flow of traffic moving in and out of all three "galleries."  We had over 25 participating artists and over 65 pieces of art on display, not counting the work on exhibit by our demonstrating artists (Andrea Driscoll, Pam Short, and Heather March). We sold over twelve pieces of art and were able, as a result, to also call this event a financially successful undertaking for some of our artists, for the Society, and for Mass Audubon (with whom we share the monies raised).

I would like to thank the following members for their assistance in making this event so successful, starting with Janice Rayner, who helped me throughout all phases of the event. I would also like to thank Diane Ulman Pedersen for the use of her panels that made it possible to exhibit all of the work, to Lou and Mary Trostel for their staffing of Gallery "3", to Judy Tyler for marketing and promoting the show, to Claire Golding and Beth Mellor for their communications support, and to Naoko Gomi for her help in accounting for all of the deposits and disbursements associated with the show.

Of course the show could never have taken place without the participation of our artists. Thanks to all of our artists (including new PAS members Sharon Koski, Debra Luoma, Nancy McBride, and Stephen Stimson). A special thanks to Jean Murphy who generously donated a painting titled "Birches of Princeton" with all proceeds benefiting the Princeton Arts Society. The raffle was limited to 25 tickets at $5.00 per chance. Jean also staffed the raffle table while promoting the upcoming Portrait Marathon.

Exhibiting and demonstrating artists included Bayda Asbridge, Bruce Dean, Judy Dino, Andrea Driscoll, Mary Dunn, Len Haug, Ann Howe, David Hummon, George Kelley, Naida Knox, Sharon Koski, David Lucht, Debra Luoma, Heather March, Nancy McBride, Lori MacDonald, Jean Murphy, James O'Rourke, Diane Pedersen, Linda Phelps, Joann Talbot Quinn, Janice Rayner, Barbara Roberts, Pam Short, Lauren and Stephen Stimson, Sid Solomon, Jean Strock, Judy Tyler, and Kathleen Vuona.

Finally, we are fortunate to have the support of the Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary and the Mass Audubon staff who values and supports our participation in this wonderful event and have done everything possible to help us put our best foot forward.

Thanks to all. Forgive me if I have inadvertently forgotten to give credit to any one else.

Until next year,

Len Haug
